An Open letter from Vic Borrill

To all users, supporters, employees, funders and friends of Brighton & Hove Food Partnership

For the past nine years Brighton & Hove Food Partnership has, with Albion in the Community (AITC), developed and delivered the city’s community healthy weight service. It is with sadness that we announce that the Food Partnership and AITC will no longer be providing this service from 1 April 2018 when a new provider will take over the contract.

We are proud of what we have achieved over the past nine years. We built a community-based weight management service from nothing to the service it is today, working with thousands of residents in every neighbourhood of the city and particularly with people who experience the greatest heath inequalities due to where they live or their illness or disability.

It has been a great pleasure to  have helped so many to lose weight, to become fitter, more active and more confident individuals. It is also immensely satisfying to have had 95% positive feedback from our service users. We have connected many of them to our other activities around community gardening and cookery, helping them make changes to their lives that we know are both positive and lasting.

Food is central to health and happiness and the Food Partnership will continue its work connecting and inspiring people in the city around food in various ways. Most excitingly, we look forward to opening a Community Kitchen in the centre of the city in April 2018, where people can come together to cook, learn new skills and enjoy food together.

We look forward to working with the Council’s Public Health team and the new weight management service provider on the new five-year food strategy action plan. Importantly, we hope to help Brighton & Hove City Council ease the transition to the new provider for employees of the current service and to minimise the disruption for clients and referrers.

We will continue to keep people updated over the next few months as plans develop but please get in touch if you have any questions.
