Where to buy local and sustainably caught fish

Fish

What: the retail outlet for Brighton and Newhaven Fish Sales. They stock fresh fish and shellfish caught by their fleet of boats as well as frozen fish from elsewhere.

Where: Hove Lagoon

Opening times: Mon – Sat, 8am – 4pm

hiSbe

What: hiSbe (how it Should be) is an independent supermarket only selling fish that are not on the MCS “fish to avoid list” and are completely traceable and free from unnecessary chemicals or dyes.

Where: 20-21 York Place, Brighton, BN1 4GU

Opening times: daily 9am – 8pm

Sea Haze

What: Locally caught fish from the Fishing Quarter’s own fishmonger Neil Messenger. Fresh stock caught that day from his family’s boats. On the beach between the two piers.

Where: 207 Kings Rd Arches (on the beach by the fishing museum)

Opening times:  7 days a week

The Sussex Peasant

What: A mobile farm shop selling locally caught fish along with 100% pasture fed meat, seasonal Sussex grown fruit and veg, locally produced cheese and a range of other local products.

Where: The Pepper Pot, Tower Road/where Queens Park Rd joins with Queens Park Terrace, Brighton

Opening times: Sat 10am-3pm
