The Centre for Ecotherapy
The group is open to people, with experience of mental health issues, who are able to access the site independently or with care/support workers.
Gardeners will be supported to work practically or creatively, individually or with others, in the development and maintenance of an organic vegetable allotment.
The group is person-centred, not task-centred, and the objective is improved well-being rather than award winning vegetables! Activities can be adapted to the abilities, needs and personal improvement goals of individual gardeners.
Gardeners will be encouraged to work at tasks they feel connected to on the day, at a pace that is comfortable for them at that time. There are no expectations of gardeners other than to respect those around them and to have an awareness of appropriate behaviour in a working environment. Feeling safe, comfortable and valued are central to the group's ethos.
The aim of the group is for gardeners to consciously experience the healing changes which will occur in their daily life through spending time in a nature-rich environment while engaged in meaningful and structured activity.
Stanmer Park, Brighton, BN1 9SE
Sessions will run from 10am-1pm on Mondays and 10am-2pm on Fridays. Gardeners may come for the whole or part of the session. Please bring appropriate footwear and outdoor/all weather clothing.
