Coldean Community Allotment

The Coldean Community Allotment was formed by a small group of volunteers to enable disabled and elderly residents in Coldean to grow their own produce and benefit from fresh air and outdoor activity.

Group standing outside at the Coldean allotmentWith the Trust for Developing Communities and the support of the volunteers they have been able to encourage elderly and disabled residents to take part that otherwise would not have considered or managed an allotment plot on their own.

The project aims to encourage more residents to take part and share the organic produce as well as benefitting from gentle exercise, fresh air and companionship of the friendly group. They also hope to hold training days on propagation, taking cuttings, seed sowing and composting in the future.

Facilities:

The plot has a raised bed, disabled access, toilet facilities and a new polytunnel and long handle tools for those who are less mobile. There is a raised bed on a disabled-friendly paved area a few yards away for wheelchair users.

Who is it for?:

Suitable for all with limited mobility.
