Dorothy Stringer Community Allotment

Dorothy Stringer Community AllotmentThis is a school allotment which has been developing since 2016. They have 24 raised beds and a recently constructed poly-tunnel. 12 beds are dedicated to the Year 7 form groups where they grow potatoes as part of their Environmental Science course. The other 12 beds are used by the ‘community’ which includes students with additional needs from Downs View Link College, parents and other volunteers from the local community. They have limited resources and the site is still developing. Any volunteers are asked to bring their own gloves and hand tools. Unfortunately they don’t have a toilet (although hope to build a composting one in the woods next to the site). They share out the produce with those that have volunteered. Apart from the regular Wednesday sessions there are ad-hoc weekend sessions arranged amongst the group.

As this is a school based community project access during school hours is not permitted.
