Run by Brighton & Hove Food Partnership, this multi-award winning community garden is tucked away off the Lewes Road, a real hidden gem.
The garden started in 2016 with some unloved land including a sink hole and anti-social behaviour – but with the help of hundreds of volunteers over thousands of hours, this neglected space has been transformed into a thriving community garden that is well known and loved by locals and volunteers.
This is an accessible and sustainable garden, featuring a permaculture design, community orchard and wildlife pond. We focus on growing low-maintenance edible fruit and veg and plants to attract pollinators.
Sessions are run fortnightly on a Wednesday morning, led by our experienced community gardener, Rosie Linford. The group is accessible to a wide range of people including those who wish to further their horticultural knowledge, as well as those wanting to improve their wellbeing. We know from experience how beneficial gardening is for mental and physical health so we welcome requests from individuals and professionals alike.
Sessions can include weeding and clearing, sowing seeds/bulbs, digging new beds, pruning, managing compost, clearing, mulching, watering, harvesting, making tea etc. There are a range of tasks to suit all abilities.
Saunders Park Edible Garden was a Finalist in the Groundwork Awards for Best Community Garden in the UK in 2017. All Food Partnership gardens are part of the Green Wellbeing Alliance for therapeutic outdoor projects
