The Food Waste Collective

A hub for people who are keen to address food waste and tackle food poverty in Brighton & Hove.

The Food Waste Collective work with local retailers, businesses and farms to redistribute good surplus food to local projects and charities. They launched in July 2013 and have so far redistributed more than 10 tonnes of surplus food.

They work to support sustainable, ethical alternatives for the tonnes of perfectly good food that is thrown away from retailers, businesses and farms every year. This is achieved by hosting redistribution days for local charities, running surplus collection at events and  festivals, and supporting other local initiatives tackling food waste in Sussex.

They are a volunteer-run project and rely on people power to make it all happen. Volunteers help repack and redistribute surplus at their redistribution events, deliver surplus donations directly to local food charities, interview and sign up businesses and take on organising roles to help develop the project.
