The Food Partnership are running a pilot event (with support from Sustrans) to enable more local residents to visit the South Downs on their bikes. We are offering the opportunity for a small group to attend a workshop and a led ride, and feedback their experience which will help inform our future work.
Cycling with Confidence
Thursday 10th September 10am-12pm
Cycling with Confidence preparation session
(venue: The Chalet Café at Preston Park)
This session will cover how to safety check your bike and fit a helmet, some basic bike riding skills and how to ride in a group. We will be keeping within government guidelines for Covid-19.
Group Cycle to Stanmer Park
Wednesday 30th September 10am-4pm
Group cycle to Stanmer Park for a day of woodland restoration volunteering with Helen Star-Keddle.
We will meet at the Level for a briefing and then ride from Brighton up to Stanmer Park together as a group.
The ride will be supported by two ride stewards and will be along bike lanes and on the road. We won’t leave anyone behind and can take breaks on route if needed.

For those who have access to a bike, these can be checked by a professional at the cycling confidence session. For those who do not have a bike, Sustrans are able to supply a limited number of bikes for use at this event.
The sessions are open to everybody and we would like to particularly encourage people to attend who struggle with their mental wellbeing and would like to visit the Downs more often.
If you have any questions, feel a bit nervous about these sessions or would like to know more, we can arrange for you to speak to the Cycle Trainer beforehand.
You would need to be available for both dates to take part in the Pilot. Both sessions will be facilitated by an experienced Cycle Trainer from Sustrans and have been Risk Assessed to comply with current Covid-19 restrictions.
