Explore the everyday and often overlooked wild plants all around us on a family-friendly walk in Stanmer Park.
Join local forager, food activist & mum, Vera Zakharov, to get a glimpse into the world of foraging.
We will meet in the beautiful Stanmer Wellbeing Gardens before taking a leisurely stroll in the surrounding forest and clearings, where Vera will explore the everyday and often overlooked wild plants all around us, pointing out edible varieties and sharing little known history and traditions around their uses.
School-age children will get the most out of the sessions, with a child-friendly activity to complete as we go. The whole family will leave with a new appreciation of wondrous weeds and forest flora.
About Vera: When not campaigning with the food and farming charity Sustain, Vera enjoys foraging with family and friends, and loves sharing her always-growing knowledge with others, especially children and families. You can see some of her #CovidForay videos and other green adventures on Twitter and on Instagram.
This event takes place entirely outside so please dress appropriately for the weather. There is a covered area at our meeting point in Stanmer Wellbeing Gardens, a compost toilet nearby and hand washing facilities available. In the event of high winds or very heavy rain we will postpone the event, in all other conditions it will proceed as planned. Find out more about travelling to Stanmer Park by car, train, bus or bicycle. Please note that walking from Stanmer Church to the site takes about ten minutes. A site map will be sent via email before the event, and our team will be available to guide you. Our walk will start at 1pm once everyone has arrived.
Any profits raised from our events support our community activities – ensuring everyone in Brighton & Hove can access and enjoy tasty, healthy food.
