Cook a winning duo of dishes in this introduction to Japanese cuisine.
You will learn how to cook a delicious teriyaki dish (salmon, chicken or tofu) and discover the techniques behind okonomiyaki, traditional savoury pancakes, that are hugely popular in Japan.
At the end of this practical online class you’ll surely be ready to flex your culinary muscles, impressing family and friends with some home-made authentic Japanese sustenance.

Note on ingredients:
We will supply a full list of ingredients and equipment upon booking. The only slightly unusual ingredients (other than veg/ meat etc) are listed below and should be readily available at your local supermarket, Asian grocer or online. If you have any trouble sourcing ingredients, Jethro will discuss substitutions and tweaks to the recipes during the session.
- Soy sauce
- Mirin (optional)
- Sake (optional)
- Egg noodles
- Oyster sauce (or hoisin if vegetarian)
- Optional toppings for the okonomiyaki: dried bonito flakes (vegetarian option = chopped up nori, the seaweed used for sushi rolling); aonori seaweed; pickled ginger; tenkasu tempura flakes
Tickets for this online event are offered on a ‘pay by donation’ basis. We suggest a donation of £20 per session, or £10 if unwaged, and £25-30 if you are able to ‘pay it forward’ to help us keep these classes accessible to all. Please note we do not typically offer refunds on online events.
