Following the national government decision that families entitled to Free School Meals will not be given food vouchers during October half-term, Brighton & Hove are responding to the need locally.
The Food Partnership are working with the Council’s Local Discretionary Social Fund (LDSF) team to provide an emergency food parcel delivery service for families with children in receipt of free school meals throughout the October half-term, from Monday 26th – Friday 30th October.
Families struggling with food during those dates can call the BHCC Community Hub line on 01273 293 117.
As well as the usual LSDF support available, the LDSF team will be able to make a referral to the Food Partnership for an ‘on-the-day’ food parcel to be delivered to the family in need. Any call received by noon will get a parcel that day, anyone calling later than that will receive a parcel the following day.
The parcels will contain basic essentials such as store cupboard ingredients, eggs, bread, fruit and vegetables.
You can donate to support children’s holiday food campaign via Chomp’s JustGiving page.
Many local restaurants, cafes and other community groups are offering free meals to families in need during half-term. Find the latest information on this local list.
There is also a national Kids Meals Map showing free meals for kids in locations across the country.
