Drove Road Community Garden was opened in 2026 to benefit the residents of Woodingdean and surrounding areas, particularly people affected by hunger, poverty or loneliness. Our rationale is to create practical opportunities for local people to grow food, improve the environment, volunteer, learn skills and reconnect with the land around them. We are using a small part of Bevendean Farm and are situated in the South Downs National Park
Our 1.6 acre plot is divided into two areas, one laid out as a Market Garden, using regenerative farming principles to grow food for the community, increasing resilience, and offering volunteering opportunities alongside others in the community. We have over 30 volunteers signed up and we always welcome anyone who can benefit from working alongside us.
The second plot is under development, but has a more ecological and environmental theme, as we reconnect people to their heritage and the land, whilst helping to strengthen biodiversity, and investigating growing food in the face of ever changing weather patterns.
We are keen to collaborate with other projects, universities, schools and companies, who have similar aspirations to us. Drove Road Community Garden CIC is a (Non-Profit) Community Interest Company limited by guarantee.
