The Weald Allotment Community Fridge reduces food waste and provides people in food poverty with access to fresh fruit, vegetables and surplus from local food businesses. It is open to the public on Thursdays and is stocked from donations of surplus from the 500 allotment-holders on the Weald site as well as local food businesses.
Weald Allotment and Gardeners Association Chair, Terry Clegg said, ‘The Community Fridge is our response to food poverty and food waste in the city of Brighton and Hove. Our slogan is “Anybody can put food in, anybody can take food out, no questions, no hassle, no waste”.
Funding for the fridge was supplied by Brighton and Hove Allotment Federation.
