Join chef, writer and African food devotee Lerato Umah-Shaylor to discover the tastes, textures and goodness of traditional African cooking. It’s exciting, spicy, diverse and – thanks to Lerato – coming to Brighton!

In this pan-African culinary adventure, you will discover how to cook with the nutritious, gluten-free teff that is a mainstay of Ethiopian cooking (the new ‘superfood’). You will create a tasty Yassa or groundnut stew from Senegal, and learn how to spice and construct delicious aubergine rolls from Morocco. Roasted plantains from West Africa and Berbere roasted vegetables from Ethiopia will also feature in the incredible feast you will cook up and enjoy at the end of this class. Add some simply delicious East African spiced brownies for dessert and your African adventures ends on a top note.

Bring your own bottle to enjoy with the feast at the end of this exciting hands-on class. The class is plant based and great for most diets, from beginners to experts, leaving you inspired to add African vibrancy into your cooking.

Tickets for this event include:

  • professional cookery tuition
  • all ingredients and equipment
  • hot drinks throughout the session and a welcome cocktail
  • a full meal at our sociable dining table (you are welcome to bring your own drinks to enjoy with the meal)
  • all recipes from the class.

Booking instructions

Tickets for this event are £59.99 per person, or £54.99 (per person) when booking two or more tickets at once. We have a limited number of tickets available at a concession rate of £39.99 for those who are in receipt of a means-tested benefit, under-18s (must be accompanied by an adult), as well as full-time students. Use the drop-down to choose these options when purchasing your ticket.

Refund policy:

We offer a full refund if you change or cancel your place up to 14 days before your class. If you cancel between seven and 14 days before your class, we offer a 50% refund. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds when a place is cancelled less than seven days before the class is due to take place.
