Nourish – cookery for better mental health- Places filled

Tuesday 3rd October 2023 - Tuesday 14th November 2023
10:30 am - 1:30 pm

About this event

Join us for our Nourish course which explores the many ways that cookery can support better mental health – building up routine and feelings of confidence, getting creative with flavours, eating healthier snacks & meals and connecting with others around our shared dining table.

Who’s this for? This course is for people living with a mental health problem. We will prioritise those with a serious mental health diagnosis such as bipolar or schizophrenia, and those for whom their mental health substantially affects their day to day activities.

Course structure:

We’ll spend six sessions (one session per week) at the Community Kitchen focusing on:

  • Learning and improving knife and kitchen skills
  • Gaining knowledge of flavours and ingredients
  • Discussing the connection between what we eat and how we feel in a focused session with our Nutritionist
  • Cooking quick and no-cook tasty meals which save time and avoid the costs of using your oven
  • Growing in experience and confidence using low-cost ingredients, limited equipment and batch cooking
  • One of these sessions will involve a visit to a local community garden or other community food project (season/ weather permitting)

Dates:

  • Tuesday 3rd October 10.30am-1.30pm
  • Tuesday 10th October 10.30am-1.30pm
  • Tuesday 17th October 10.30am-1.30pm
  • Tuesday 31st October 10.30am-1.30pm
  • Tuesday 7th November 10.30am-1.30pm
  • Tuesday 14th November 10.30am-1.30pm
