Webinar – Understanding Routes to Market: A Practical Guide for Farmers and Deer Managers
About this event
As part of the Land Use Plus Project, Brighton & Hove Food Partnership has developed practical resources to support farmers and deer managers who are producing food through conservation and sustainable land management and want to sell into local food supply chains or directly to their communities.
Join us for this webinar to explore our Farming for Conservation: Farmer Resource Pack and Deer Manager Resource Pack.
This session is aimed at conservation organisations, local authorities, landowners, conservation farmers and graziers, deer stalkers and deer managers, and anyone interested in combining nature recovery with local food production and sales. Whether you’re starting out or looking to expand an existing enterprise, this webinar will introduce tools and ideas to help you reach local customers.
Our panel includes:
Georgina Cockett- Project Co-ordinator, Brighton & Hove Food Partnership (Sussex Grazed)
Georgina Cockett is Project Co-ordinator for Land Use Plus and Sussex Grazed at Brighton & Hove Food Partnership. Based in Sussex, she works with farmers and deer managers to support nature-friendly food production and build local markets for meat, including wild venison. Sussex Grazed promotes direct sales and provides guidance to help producers set up businesses, market their products and demonstrate how grazing and deer management can help restore local landscapes.
Jo Da Silva- Open Food Network UK
Jo Da Silva is a Coordinator at Open Food Network UK, a digital platform that helps local food producers, food hubs and community enterprises sell food online and build resilient local supply chains. Since joining the organisation in 2020, she has supported producers to develop routes to market and connect with customers and buyers. Jo currently leads the Procurement for Good project, helping strengthen local food economies and increase access to sustainably produced food through collaborative, community-focused food networks.
Lee Moran- Farmer, Triffords Farm
Lee Moran runs Triffords Farm in Devon, producing high-quality beef, venison and free-range chicken using nature-friendly farming methods. His herd of Ruby Red Devon cattle is 100% grass-fed, and the farm’s carefully managed pastures and hay meadows support wildlife, soil health and carbon storage. Through direct sales, via The Open Food Network UK, Lee demonstrates how sustainable livestock farming can produce excellent food while enhancing the local environment.
Alex Forster- Sunrise Venison
Alex Forster is founder of Sunrise Venison, a Somerset-based business supplying sustainably sourced wild venison from across South West England. With more than seven years’ experience in deer management, he works with landowners to manage deer populations and promote the responsible use of wild game. Passionate about reducing waste and connecting people with their food, Alex advocates for making full use of wild venison as a healthy, sustainable local food source. Alex sell venison via The Open Food Network UK and in-store in a whole food store in Bristol.
