Learn fire-making tips and fireside cookery techniques before eating a delicious seasonal lunch.
Rediscover the amazing sensations of a meal cooked over an open flame. All set in the woods on your doorstep, in our series of themed outdoor events at the beautiful Stanmer Wellbeing Gardens.
The session will share a few basics of fire making as well as techniques for cooking over an open flame. Learn simple preparations for seasonal ingredients that maximise flavour. Enjoy a relaxed pace as we chop and chat and pick up tips from our fireside leaders.
Sit down together and enjoy your seasonal feast served with a glass of locally pressed apple juice (or bring your own bottle). Typical dishes include – Moroccan pumpkin & chickpea fire stew, herby couscous, flatbreads with herb and garlic butter, seasonal salad with edible flowers, chargrilled vegetables with wild salsa verde, fruit compote with crunchy topping and caramel toffee sauce – perfect to enjoy al fresco on an autumn afternoon.
This event takes place entirely outside so you will need to dress appropriately for the weather. There is a covered area in case of poor weather, a compost toilet on site and hand washing facilities provided. In the event of high winds or very heavy rain we will postpone the event, in all other conditions it will proceed as planned.
