Crunchy Granola

Make your own tasty and nourishing toasted cereal.

Serves 5 people


 

  • 3 tablespoon(s) oil
  • 2 tablespoon(s) honey
  • 2 tablespoon(s) malt extract (or use extra honey)
  • 250 grams porridge oats
  • 1 tablespoon(s) sunflower seeds
  • 1 tablespoon(s) sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon(s) pumpkin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon(s) desiccated or shredded coconut
  • 1 tablespoon(s) nuts roughly chopped (almonds, brazils, walnuts, hazelnuts)

 

  1. Preheat the oven to gas mark 3, 150°C, or 300°F.
  2. Measure the oil, honey and malt into a small saucepan and heat gently, stirring to combine thoroughly.
  3. Put all the dry ingredients into a large bowl, mix well together and add the oil/honey mixture.
  4. Stir well until all the dry ingredients are coated.
  5. Spread the mixture out into a large roasting tin and place in oven.
  6. After 10 minutes, take out and turn mixture around in the tin so that it  colours evenly. Bake for a further 10 minutes or until it is an even, rich golden brown colour. Beware, it burns easily!
  7. When cool, break into crumbs and store in an airtight container. It will keep for several weeks

In this recipe you can vary the ingredients according to your taste or what you have available in the cupboard– e.g. use other flaked grains, such as jumbo oats, barley, rye, wheat, buckwheat, quinoa or millet.
