Sweet Crumble Topping

A sweet topping for fruit crumbles and crumble cakes

140g white or brown flour (or half and half, or use half oats)

70g butter or vegan margarine

35g sugar

Mixed spice (optional)

A handful of roughly chopped nuts (optional)

 

NB: This recipe uses a ratio of 1 part sugar to 2 parts butter and 4 parts flour/oats.

For a richer version use 1 part sugar to 2 parts butter and 3 parts flour/oats.

Put the flour into a large bowl.

Cut the butter or margarine into chunks and rub it into the flour with your fingertips.

When it looks like breadcrumbs, mix in the sugar, and a little extra spice if you like.

Add a handful of roughly chopped nuts if you like them.

Use as required.

This mixture can be frozen until required.
