Sussex in Season

Our Land Use Plus team has compiled this resource to help you find the very best in season Sussex produce. All the food listed here are produced, foraged, hunted, or landed in Sussex and can be found at local retailers and markets. For more information on where to buy, check out our directory.

Winter: At the beginning of the year we are in deepest winter, with most fresh fruit and veg coming from stores. Brassicas like cabbages and broccoli, and root vegetables such as beetroot, are still thriving. As we reach February, though, we enter the “hungry gap” where fresh, local produce becomes particularly difficult to find. It is the peak season for fish and game.
