We’re starting a new growing year and there’s nothing more rewarding than harvesting some winter produce and planning our space for the year ahead.

The first signs of life in the garden appear this month.

March can surprise us with cold days and the occasional frost but delights us with warm sunny days too.

Now it’s the perfect time to get sowing and grow seedlings on a windowsill, a cold frame or even directly into the ground.

May can start to feel like spring – long days, warm sun, everything blossoming and growing again.

June is when the summer officially starts and we really start reaping the benefits of the work we’ve put into our growing space.

We’re about to enter the height of the summer and historically the busiest months in the gardening calendar.

Welcome to one of the most plentiful months of the year!

This is the traditional month for harvesting, when we’re rewarded with copious amounts of fresh produce from the garden.

October often has a mix of autumn showers with lovely days of sunshine and blue sky.

November is also the perfect time to make a bonfire with your garden waste and enjoy the first warming glass of mulled wine or cider after a day spent in the garden.

As the cold moves in, we must get ready to protect our crops from frosty nights. Daylight is decreasing fast and plant growth is smaller and weaker, which means that we can spend less time looking after plants.
